Torn between English and Italian tailoring influences, the Autumn / Winter 2013 Valentino Men’s collection pays tribute to the long history of haute couture and the sophistication of the modern gentleman. Classic houndstooth goes together with check patterns, fur and leather, which only highlights that youthful may also mean elegant.
Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli incorporated some of the Swinging Sixties’ looks combined with the long tradition of excellent craftsmanship. The designers coloured the garments in blue wool, green shades and overprinted black and dressed up the models in exquisite glasses. The fine collection is composed of trim suits, trenches, coats with inserted leather panels at the hem or at the waist, polished black shoes and bowties towards the end of show – all in all have defining the sartorial elegance and nostalgia in Valentino’s designs.
