Sangue Novo, literally meaning ‘new blood’, referred to the showcasing of ten up-and-coming designers at Moda Lisboa 2015. This presentation was all about celebrating youth and creativity, with one participating designer saying, “Sangue Novo is a great opportunity and platform for us to gain visibility and set up our own brand.” Ana Duarte, the designer in question, has just completed an MA at the London College of Fashion and was happy to provide her opinion on Sangue Novo. “I think it is from young people that new ideas spring up and revolutionise the market.”
David Catalán, a designer presenting his collection in the competition, showcased a collection titled ‘No Signal’, made up of a series of outfits, each one was one colour head to toe. Comprised of constructed leather tops with matching trousers, gladiator skirts, shirts, shoes and even sunglasses, the multitude of fabrics are what made this collection so great. Seemingly unisex, the head-to-toe looks were sophisticated and modernistic. Huge oversized skirts, sweaters and smock dresses walked down the runway in colours like crimson red, baby pink, beige and cream. Bronzed metallic sweaters and skirts also made a quick cameo. His collection was everything one could want wrapped up in coordinating colours.
Inês Duvale‘s was another standout show, with T-shirts worn over long-length fur coats and an excellent play with textures and materials. Fur patches and oversized fur handcuffs held the word ‘Dreamers’. The feminine shapes turned a masculine male more soft and gentle, while still maintaining a manly feel. Clad in skirts and fur, he still seemed undoubtedly cool and untouchable. The clean sleek lines of the garments juxtaposed bulky wools and various other materials. This collection was the perfect union of sports and casualwear – with some fur thrown in for good measure.
