Menswear fashion is definitely having a defining moment right now and it’s thanks to designers like Grace Wales Bonner, the Central Saint Martins graduate who most recently took part in the Victoria and Albert Museum’s Fashion in Motion series on April the 10th, 2015. Her pieces, which are heavily embellished and intricately crafted, intertwine complex couture techniques with African craft and black visual culture. Think velvet embellished with shell and Swarovski crystals, high-waisted flares, and jewelled skull caps which have become somewhat of a signature. The presentation compiled all of Bonner’s collections to date and derived its energy in sparse motion against a densely atmospheric backdrop.
