Sequin-obsessed designer Ashish‘s Autumn / Winter 2015 collection was an exhibit of ’70s call girl stereotypes. For this season, the London-based designer chose the Klute female lead Bree Daniels (played by veteran actress Jane Fonda) as his muse and presented his collection with a powerful feminist statement. “I think women should have a right to dress the way they want and feel sultry and empowered – you could call these pieces a celebration of femininity and freedom,” also adding, “I am pro ‘Free the Nipple’ – get your tits out if you want to.”
Models sashayed down the ramp in PVC red stripper platform boots to sequinned lingerie and oversized patchwork furs – Ashish chose to turn the stereotypes into high fashion preferences. Sexed up yet sporty silhouettes, the collection was a fierce and glamorous representation of the bold 1970s. With just the right amount of attitude and sass, his oversized blurred blue camo jeans with leopard fur trims and sequinned cropped track pants along with his everyday wear glam pieces is a take on bringing back disappearing trends and giving his audience an updated look with extraordinary, yet subtly provocative designs.
“You know there’s nothing wrong, nothing… nothing is wrong. I think the only way that any of us can ever be happy is to let it all hang out… you know… do it all, and fuck it.” – Bree Daniels, Klute
