Make sure to remember the name Wai Wai Yang, as the fashion textiles designer with a love for print will soon be leaving through the doors of the London College of Fashion. Her Autumn / Winter 2015 collection, entitled ‘Unconditional’, is influenced by the asymmetrical aesthetic associated with the Japanese Wabi-Sabi philosophy. The idea is to find beauty in imperfections and accept the natural cycle of growing and, eventually, decaying. The designer looks at elements like the abstract prints and textures that form on skin and stimulate the senses. Yang experiments with using a variety of different materials, laying them against each other, and toying with screen-printing methods on the textile for different textures. The point is to add more definition to the surface.
