Day 10 of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam comprised an unusual mix of politics, femininity and theatre. Politics and fashion merged for the night during the Political Catwalk Show, where young designers presented their collections inspired by politics and democracy.
AM/WESTEN proved that womenswear doesn’t strictly have to be either powerful or feminine, but that these can be combined. Hosted by Vodafone Fashion LAB PRO, the presentation of the collections successfully fused two traditionally opposing elements by utilising folded details and movements. Tailor & Elbaz screamed edginess, sexiness and femininity, by adding a touch of silver and gold. This was the message the designer duo aimed to convey through their S / S 2016 collection. Susana Bettencourt began her career as a designer with a focus on knitwear and lace and presented a new collection, in which she uses innovative digital techniques to result in futuristic jackets and prints.
Zalando presents 10 Days Downtown concluded with ‘Fashion meets Theatre’ at one of the trendiest hotspots of Amsterdam: Pllek. The live fashion performance by Fernada Fernades and video artist Liao Fan made for a truly fitting conclusion.
