Habitat – Valentim Quaresma expresses his interests in fashion and art through his designs of accessories. Featuring in ModaLisboa, Lisbon Fashion Week, his dramatic Spring / Summer 2016 collection was inspired by nature; by animals, ecosystems, wildlife and habitats (as the name of the collection would suggest). Quaresma manipulated fabrics – burning tissue and metal, working with resin, brass, polyester, neoprene, snakeskin and precious gems. Whilst the clothes the models wore were black, it was actually quite hard to tell where the accessories ended and the clothes started; the two merge into each other. ‘A new dialogue between the accessory and clothing’ says the designer. Dramatic make-up/face paint offset the accessories in abstract, wild markings, relating back to the theme of the natural world.
