British menswear designer Alex Mullins has never feared shape, and his Autumn/Winter 2016 collection is no different. Featuring strong structural denim designs with exposed tobacco stitching were literal printed pieces, which could almost be considered as art works in themselves. Hair was styled loosely to fall over the models’ faces in a sort of wet look and make-up was generally minimal, highlighting the purple and pink shimmer that surrounded the models’ cheekbones, chin and nose. Mullins took inspiration from ‘the process of boredom’ – what one does with oneself when confronted with it. What we subconsciously start to think about in order to escape it. The designer references escapism in this collection – all the pieces are warped and twisted. Figurative faces were visible on certain sections of the garments, stretched disproportionately over the clothing. The combination made for an imaginative, thought-provoking atmosphere.
