The idea of blush, white and see-through undergarments and garters might prompt visions of classically romantic lingerie, but Natalie Caroline Wilkins offers something much more surprising. The London-born designer works with polystyrene, molded silicone, PVC, latex and plastic to create a series of futuristic vests, skirts and bras. Here is how she describes her collection, titled ‘Objectification Of The Female Form': “A lot of feminist art covers up the body, but the idea of my collection is ‘Fuck you! I will show my body if I want to’.”
The designer presented her work at the East London Fashion Shows (formerly Shoreditch Fashion Shows) in February. Fashion stylist Wynter Heayes is the instigator of the project, which has been running for a year.
