Ra-ta-ta-ta-ta! I hear the flapping noise of those deft hands snapping my tight skin – the same hands that just minutes ago gingerly and with an indescribable smoothness enveloped my feet in a warm, damp towel. With my eyes closed I let myself go, fully trusting the tiny fingers, maybe also due to the inebriant smell of the essential oil on my body I will be inhaling gently for the next 75 minutes. Heaven!

While ‘Yon’ means ‘river of lively and purifying waters’ and phonetically ‘ion’ is the particle of energy, ‘Ka’ in the pharaonic Egypt describes the part of eternity of each being. Thus the two syllables approach what seems far apart; knowledge and mystery, nature and science; and form a symbol of regeneration and rediscovered harmony.

The French skin care brand Yon-Ka was created in 1954, pioneering the physiotherapeutic and aromatherapeutic treatments all around the five essential oils: thyme from Spain, lavender from Haute Provence, geranium from Egypt, cypress from Provence and rosemary from Morocco – olfactive treasures all reinforcing the natural plant’s actives, providing the skin with manners to restore and maintain its optimum balance.

In its third family generation, Yon-Ka is rich in knowledge about the benefits of essential oils and botanicals they bring to their range. Thyme is a potent stimulant with antiseptic properties, lavender is known to calm and heal, geranium calms inflammation, cypress acts as a decongestant and rosemary possesses toning and regenerating properties. All Yon-Ka products are manufactured in the family’s 7’000 sqm factory in Argenteuil with production conforming to pharmaceutical standards and traceability of products.

At the Espace Yon-Ka, the brand’s flagship spa in Paris, whose menu includes everything from quarter-hour express offers to privatised all-day pampering, I had the chance to discover the Phyto-Fermeté treatment supposedly slenderising and remineralising, great for after pregnancy or heavy weight loss re-shaping. You tell me. I’m none of these cases, yet I know the holistic approach was well-being pure. To be repeated.

For treatments in London I can recommend No74 Hair & Beauty.
