Fabio Marco Pirovino, Scribble (Drawing) XVII, 2014, inkjet print on canvas, 170 x 340 cm

ANCIENT & MODERN commences the new year with a two-person exhibition introducing young Swiss artist Fabio Marco Pirovino in his first exhibition in London, showing together with our London-based gallery artist Luke Gottelier.

Pirovino foregrounds two of his signature “Scribble” paintings, begun as a series of intense monochromatic drawings or gestures initially made physically on Plexiglass as an analogue transparency before being produced digitally on canvas at a vastly increased scale.

Luke Gottelier continues to mine the possibilities of what constitutes painting through combining it with fire; during Bonfire Night last November, Gottelier made one of his paintings into a giant firework and a new ‘work’ promises to illuminate, though not explode, the gallery too.

Fabio Marco Pirovino was born in 1980 in Basel, Switzerland, and currently lives in Berlin after having spent several years in New York. Solo exhibitions include OLM Art Space, Neuchatel and Swiss Institute Rome Milano and in 2010 he made an outside mural at Kunsthalle Basel. His works are in the Collections of Swiss Post, Canton Zurich & City of Zurich, and Mezzanin Foundation, Liechtenstein. He will exhibit at TOVES, Copenhagen next month. Luke Gottelier was born in 1968 and lives in London, his extensive exhibition history available on our website.
