Fyodor Golan‘s Autumn / Winter 2014 runway show was almost outshined by what happened beforehand. The designer duo partnered with mobile company Nokia to create a skirt made of 80 smartphones. Through an app developed for the event, the bell-shaped mini-skirt displayed pictures and videos that reacted to the model’s movements to create a shimmering effect.

However idiosyncratic, this presentation was consistent with the rest of the collection, which was inspired by the duo’s travels to Southeast Asia. In Myanmar and Cambodia, the designers noticed locals mixing traditional clothing with new influences such as technology. In their ‘Crocodile’ collection, this translated into surprising textures and materials, such as fluffy mohair, shimmery metallics and foil-like fabric. The athletic trend was on every model’s head with shiny or bejeweled caps. Menswear was introduced to the brand for the first time with a hot pink furry turtleneck, jacket, cap and trousers.

The setting was equally bold and colourful: hot pink artificial turf covered the ground and was wrapped around columns that looked like fantasy palm trees. All in all, the Fyodor Golan Autumn / Winter 2014 presentation was definitely not for the faint of heart.
