Central Saint Martins graduate and designer Samuel Yang explores the idea of tension in his creations, both in the concept and in the materialisation of it. Tension, meaning the state of being stretched tight, resulting in mental or emotional strain. Through experimenting with different mixed media, Yang creates multi-formed tension in his collection, like rubber, plastic and PVC-coated fabric. This juxtaposition brings out ideas of tightness, oppressiveness and the appearance of wetness. New ways of pattern-cutting are always used to express the human form that is also inspired by art and other media.
