Issey Miyake’s Autumn/Winter 2016 collection explored the immeasurable opportunities arising from the manipulation of fabrics. This season, it was a combination of two unique processes: a “Baked Stretch,” where a cloth is printed with a special glue and expanded by heat to produce free flowing pleats, and “3D Steam Stretch,” where steam is used to shrink the cloth in addition to distinctive pleats. What resulted from this exploration into new techniques was an optical illusion of two-dimensional circles, geometric lines and graphic patterns – a collection quintessential Issey Miyake in dynamic colour and impeccable styling.
