A green, red and blue crayon palette, a backpack, a schoolboy cap and a raincoat – these were the playful ingredients used to update neutral base tones and traditional silhouettes for the John Lawrence Sullivan gent of Spring / Summer 2014.

Designer Arashi Yanagawa led with bold colour accents on pockets and socks. Then came the many iterations of plaid, served up light, juxtaposed against perforated leather and layered against itself. Short suits were a stand out, in contrasting weights, lustres and patterns. Iridescent checks in various sizes emerged in navy. Leather jackets were played against taffeta bottoms. Checkered seersucker, a charming suit couplet did make.

The collection heralded a contemporary movement around a childlike vocabulary of colour, texture and print, merging seamlessly with a refined, adult aesthetic vernacular.
