‘The Accidental Tourist’ was the premise behind Jil Sander’s SS14 Menswear collection, a character that appears laid-back with a number of guises to suit any situation. Without straying away from her signature minimalist silhouettes and neat cuts, the designer explored quirky prints and unusual use of fabrics.

A pop of colour livened up the collection in the form of a chaotic orange print which adorned overcoats, sharp suits, culottes and a tailored windbreaker, which looked more like a shirt than a jacket. Shorts were so voluminous, they appeared to be kilts at first glance but were more of a masculine culotte.

Elsewhere, Sander used patent vinyl to create smart boxy coats and a refreshing take on the raincoat – waterproof, stylish and thoroughly modern, the collection cements the designer’s status as the queen of the understated.
