Hexa by Kuho Autumn / Winter 2013

This season, Hexa by Kuho sent paper-waif, serious-faced models down a maze of a catwalk. Entitled ‘Résistance L’amour’, the collection was inspired by ‘the coexistence of war and everyday life’, and designer Kuho Jung delivered strong leather accents, colour blocking and playful war motifs.

Split black and yellow coats and dresses carried black grenades and missile prints. The theme continued through embossed coats in black, navy and red. Prints were created using Jung’s unique process of silicon and fabric bonding with laser cuts. Skinny pants clung to models’ calves and ankles, but held an exaggerated drop crotch. Knits were highly textured, and jackets in micro-sequin geometric patterns added even more variety. Pleated black dresses and skirts gave movement to a catwalk that was otherwise weighed down by heavy leather wedges and pants that restricted walkability.

Designed with witty double entendre in mind, the war idea was unfortunately realised in a gimmicky collection. Inspiration aside, we can’t quite see oversized grenades and missiles making it into our ‘war-meets-day-at-the-office’ wardrobe, no matter how post-apocalyptic Winter 2013 proves to be.
