The look was clean, crisp and construction (and not just in the sartorial sense) atChristian Lacroix Homme. Construction site sound effects crunching through the speakers, the presentation was a procession of models as mechanic, painter and lab geek. Despite the workwear premise, the collection kept a sophisticated and sporty cool. One-piece paint suits – patterned, quilted or in contrast stitch denim – looked right at home on the catwalk.

In the show’s notes, creative director Sacha Walckhoff describes the ‘idea of uniform without being uniform’. Somewhere between blue collar and scholar – fittingly played out in mechanic-blue and ink blue – the collection’s theme was driven home with literal prints in architectural blueprint, composition book marble and graph paper window check. Black and yellow caution tape stripes appeared in calfskin as an overcoat and matching lunchbox. White rubber-coated sleeves and trouser legs added stark contrast and clean lines. Some models sported eyewear of the lab goggle variety, conveying geek chic to the right degree.
