Bas Kosters ‘Fancy Bucket’

Yes people, it’s festival season! And that’s why every mainstream fashion chain has designed a festival collection for us. Can we explain this as an ultimate service to their customers? Or a devious scheme to make them spend more money? Where people once used to wear their old clothes, festivals have become a part of mainstream culture, and are a place to dress up and show yourself. If you Google festival fashion, you get thousands of images of people all looking the same. The typical festival look consisting of cut-off jeans, a hippy blouse, glasses, booties and a hat was probably once original, but has since turned into a look that you can buy in one go from any rack, in any store, on any high street. From originality to mass market consumption, that’s the way the festival look has developed. I hope that if I visit a festival this year, I’ll be surprised by new, original and outspoken looks, instead of copy-and-paste high street looks. Inspire and be inspired, that’s what I wish for us all!
