Lisboa, the city of light and soulful Fado music, saw how its streets were filled with an explosion of emotions and talent during its Autumn / Winter 2016 Fashion Week ModaLisboa.

The Sangue Novo (New Blood) show opened the season and filled the runway with vibrant youth and innovation. The platform is well-known for handpicking the best of Portuguese and international talent, featuring the collections of nine up-and-coming designers: Banda (by Tiago Loureiro), Carolina Machado, Cristina Real, David Catalán, Inês Duvale, Patrick de Pádua, Rúben Damásio, Sara Santos and Tânia Nicole.

A select jury panel chose one of the labels to be integrated within the LAB Platform and to have the opportunity to sell its A/W16 collection at the renowned concept store ComCor Lisboa. The jury for this season included Eduarda Abbondanza, President of ModaLisboa, Ana Campos, Fashion Director of Vogue Portugal, Anabela Becha, Researcher and Fashion Curator, Francisca Maltez, Buyer of ComCor, and Alberto Caselli, Fashion Director of Sport & Street.

Patrick de Pádua became the awarded designer with his ‘On the Hunt’ collection, which “isn’t only a reference to the hunting universe but also the constant search of the individuals for something that completes them”. The designer uses traditional materials such as the artisanal Portuguese wool fabric burel and leather, in order to create a contemporary men’s streetwear collection. Don’t miss the opportunity to buy one of Patrick’s trench coats at ComCor Lisboa.

Porto-based Spanish designer David Catalán was chosen by the Maastricht interdisciplinary platform FashionClash to be the ModaLisboa representative in the next edition of the Dutch fashion festival in June 2016. The designer’s collection ‘Club Ska 67’ was inspired by the early 1970s British Suedehead subculture, an offshoot of skinhead culture. Catalán also took us on a musical journey, making a beautiful reference to The Who through the collection’s colour palette.

More to come from the best of ModaLisboa soon. Stay tuned!
