With her curves-hugging knit dresses covered in asymmetrical slashes of colour, Hiroko Nakajima is a clear heir to Sonia Rykiel. At her Autumn / Winter 2014 show, the French inspiration even permeated the soundtrack thanks to Yelle’s ‘Je veux te voir’ hit, whose saucy lyrics underlined the casual sensuality of the collection. Nakajima’s snug cashmere frocks are sexy, but not revealing. The graphic forms that adorn them are colourful, yet not brazen. She also added a touch of whimsy to her last presentation with geometrical clutches in pop colours and pointy knitted beanies. It’s a balancing act that the designer pulls off brilliantly.

Hiroko Nakajima was born in Tokyo and now lives in London, where she completed both a BA and an MA at Central Saint Martins. She regularly seeks inspiration from her home country. All her garments are made in the UK. This past February, she presented her Autumn / Winter 2014 collection as part of Ones to Watch.
