Bas Kosters ‘Sloppy Granny’
I encountered a girl today who looked like a granny – with a messy bun on her head and very unsexy clothing. Where two trends collide, it turned into a little fashion disaster. On one hand there’s the preppy, clean-cut, flat shoes and new basics trend. On the other, the trend of wearing a big woolly ’80s vest and other brownish vintage clothing. Put this together in just the wrong way, and what is left? A sloppy granny.
Where some people are accused of dressing too youthful, like Madonna at the Grammys, could we speak about about people who dress too old? Whilst we are praising older women that look fantastic, like on the website of advanced style, some young girls choose to look like a dusty apron without any sex appeal. Although I know that it’s good to not reveal too much – you might come across as a sex bomb – you can also be too decent. The term ‘age appropriate’ somehow always leaves a bit of a nasty taste in my mouth, as it forces people to conform, but in case of dressing too old it seems to make more sense.
