Peony Yip, aka the White Deer, is a Hong Kong-based artist illustrating the boundary between nature and the human world. Her minimalist, simple style of pencil drawings is delicately beautiful, yet creepy in part. She likes to describe herself as an ‘imperfect amateur’, meaning that she sees herself as a person that has plenty to learn and improve upon.

Her most recurring theme in her work are animals. As she states herself, ‘they relax me and they make up for the stupid things that humans do’. For her series entitled ‘Wildlife’, Peony created drawings of animals in red overlapping portraits of young women reflecting the wild nature of youthful souls.

Peony currently lives and works in Hong Kong.
