DASH Magazine and the Embassy of Switzerland in the UK present ‘CH talents: Depicting Fashion’, the Swiss contribution to the British Fashion Council‘sInternational Fashion Showcase 2013, which opened its door on Wednesday.

‘CH talents: Depicting Fashion’ presents key looks by the six emerging Swiss fashion designers Julian Zigerli, PortenierRoth, Stefanie Biggel, Studio Laend Phuengkit, Studio Winkler and YVY. In an art gallery setting, the side products of fashion design take centre stage, as the exhibition features illustrations and film alongside the the garments. The six collections are all marked by an influence from Switzerland’s natural landscapes fused with urban elements resulting from the designers’ lives on the move between their home country and European fashion hubs such as Berlin and London.

The exhibition draws attention to the variety of imagery produced by the designers at different stages in the design process. Sketches are made either by hand or on the computer, where fragments of patterns and draped materials are overlaid onto a simple drawing of the human figure to visualise the potential design. Photographs illustrate how the finished garments look when worn and they are presented alongside the clothes in the form of printed look books.

In other instances, photography is used more creatively to convey the ideas and inspirations behind the collections. Similarly, collection films not only convey visual imagery, but also situate the designs within fictional narratives. More abstract filmic imagery is used as a visual backdrop for the designs as part of a catwalk presentation.

The exhibition was created by Sabina Müller and is still on display at the gallery@oxo until 24th February 2013.
