Surprisingly enough, not many designers acknowledge the events occurring around the world today, making it seem like fashion is a detached bubble rather a documentation of our times. That’s why it was pleasant to see designers Catherine Teatum and Rob Jones create a collection that is both beautiful and political. Their muse for this collection was political peace activist Leymah Gbowee. While the textiles were a gorgeous mix of African-inpsired patterns and minimal fabrics translated in new ways, the 3D element tied the whole collection together by appearing on the garments and the crown-like headpieces made in collaboration with Emily Baxendale. The Teatum Jones show ended on a strong note as the duo came to bow for their audience in matching sweaters that read “Refugees Welcome”.
