Surprisingly uplifting and somber at the same time, Ann Demeulemeester’s Autumn/Winter 2016 collection was iconic yet new. In fact, this was the first collection since the departure of its figurehead that the label left me with chills. An unrushed piano track supplied the melancholy beats for a collection that breathed life into a season of minimalist colour palettes and added textures to where there were few. Long alpaca coats of white and mustard-like hues supported a collection of strong outerwear and layers. It was nice to experience a line-up of men’s garment that could finally conjure classic Ann D. style while still remaining perfectly representative of Sébastien Meunier’s own particular aesthetics.
