Dimitri Arvanitis’s postgraduate collection ‘Aufmisch’ at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp sings the unheard song of club kid culture. After moving from Germany to Antwerp at the age of 19, Dimitri graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 2013. Judging by his amazingly detailed and incredibly cool sketchbook, Dimitri is a man with great talent. His take on menswear is inherently different from many other designers. His inspiration comes from the slick clean lines of the New York business man’s attire, and then toys with the idea of a masculine femininity. He uses shapes and silhouettes reminiscent of female dress. The AUFMISCH male is a man with a masked gender; the clothes are very androgynous, clearly masculine yet with a feminine twist. Rich, sophisticated and luxurious, his garments may be a little risqué but are beautifully designed and magnificently crafted.
