25-year-old illustrator Giuditta Aresi hails from Bergamo, Italy. After having worked in interior design for almost four years, she decided to dedicate herself to illustration and graphic design and took an Illustration course in Milan last year. She mainly gets inspired by movies – her other passion – and has lately particularly been focusing on portraits, as she is fascinated by the idea that the small details are enough to make a person that person. Giuditta mostly works with pencils, acrylics and gouache and only occasionally works digitally. Before her debut in DASH Magazine’s S/S15 issue, scheduled for release in February, we asked her a few questions about her work.

How would you describe your work in three words?
Evolving, surprising (the results are never what I’d imagined), pop.

What fascinates you the most about illustration?
I have a strange feeling when I draw; I can’t wait for the illustration to finished to see the result, but at the same time I don’t want to finish because obviously I like what I’m doing and see the result as ‘everything is over’. So it’s both a feeling of anxiety and joy. I dare say that drawing is my ‘Saturday’, my expectation of something pleasant that it is often more pleasant than that something pleasant.

Who are some of your favourite artists?
I love the Swedish artist Sara Andreasson, the Spanish artist Little is Drawing (Carla Fuentes) and the Italian Sarah Mazzetti (go girls!).

What or who is the inspiration behind your work?
Yes, I like to watch movies and TV series of almost all kinds. If there’s a scene, an image or a shot that arouses strong feelings in me, or a character I particularly like, I try to capture and represent this. I consider them screenshots :)

Would you describe your work as conceptual or decorative?
Decorative, but I don’t rule out dedicating myself also to something more conceptual in the future.
